ln view of the military strategic and commercial importance of liquid propellant rocket engines, this work was done to develop a software for the performance calculation and sensitivity analysis of cycles of this engine category. The objective is to have a Brazilian too! to analyze and select cycles that meet the propulsion requirements of aerospace vehicles, generating the design requirements for the many components inside the propulsion system. This will allow for research and development in the liquid propulsion topic at the national levei, since it is not possible to have access to similar tools developed in other countries. The developed program, called LPREAnalysis, was written in C language using the modular and sequential approaches, in order to be flexible enough so that new implementations can be done in the future. Numerous models have been implemented for each component. The methodology validation was successfully performed by comparing the simulated performance parameters with the respective reference parameters available in the literature, considering four different existing engines. Finally, a preliminary case study was made to choose a cycle that fulfilled a thrust requirement of 1.5 MN, considering severa! different cycles and propellant pairs. The results presented were consistent with what was theoretically expected and the too!was able to generate the component requirements, fulfilling the proposed initial objective. The present computational too!is part of the areas of interest of the Brazilian Air Force and extends to the interests of the countries involved in the area of space research and development, with respect to propulsion technologies. The calculation of the cycle, with different configurations and possibilities, is one of the first design steps of a rocket engine. Subsequently, the various design teams, with each component data and requirements, initiate the design of ali other elements such as pumps, turbines, valves and the entire installation, which consists of a complex system to provide the necessary thrust to the aerospace vehicles. |
