Resumo : Retrofitting old buildings is a feasible alternative in order to guarantee thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Energy simulations can be adopted as decision making support tools in the scope of selecting interventions to be applied in a project. In this context, the goals for this work consisted of performing a thermal comfort and energy efficiency evaluation of a building retrofit through energy simulations. The case study is a historic building, Casa Niemeyer, and Brazilian standards for energy efficiency were adopted as guide for simulations and results interpretation. The software adopted in the simulations was EnergyPlus. Interventions on the roof, windows, equipment and operation schedules were assessed. The interventions evaluated increased slightly the thermal comfort, and the roof intervention presented more significant results. Electricity consumption, however, presented a dramatic reduction after implementing the suggested interventions. The results indicate that building retrofit can have relevant role on increasing building sustainability of old buildings. The results also indicate a need for carefully choosing interventions according to the context of each project.
