Resumo : Due to recent changes in the air transport market, non-aeronautical revenues became a key financial source for modern airports, potentially changing the objectives of airport operators. In this context, the passenger free time in the landside is an important aspect, since it represents the time that the passenger can spend in the airport commercial establishments (e.g. retail stores and restaurants), increasing its attractiveness and, consequently, its revenue. This thesis explores the airport resource allocation problem under this increasingly important airport operational perspective of busting non-aeronautical revenues. Unlike previous work, we also take a system level approach to account for the interdependency between different components of the airport system. Specifically, this thesis proposes an integrated optimization model for the gate assignment problem, the baggage handling problem and the check-in position distribution problem. The model seeks to minimize the time spent by the passenger in these systems, allowing for increased free time to be spent elsewhere in the airport commercial establishments. To address the computational complexity of the model, we propose the use of different metaheuristics, including hybrid solution methods. The results showed that a combined Big Bang - Big Crunch and Genetic Algorithm solution method provided the smallest computational time, which is suitable for an operational implementation.
