Resumo : This research aims to choose methodologies for energy and exergy analysis for steam power plants. In order to perform this work, a computational program was developed in FORTRAN-90. Power plant components are modeled by balance equations of mass, energy, and exergy. The thermodynamic properties of the water/steam are determined by a subroutine implemented to the main program based on the industrial formulation IAPWS-IF97 (International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam). To validate the program developed was simulated operating conditions of a plant and the results compared. The results obtained showed to be in agreement with the reference. A case study of a real power plant was performed based on data provided by the company. It was possible to determine the destroyed exergy and the exergetic efficiency for each component of the steam power plant and the cycle performance parameters. A second case study was developed to analyze the effects of superheating, reheating and regeneration as well as the effects of boiler and condenser pressures on the thermal and exergetic efficiencies of a Rankine Cycle, this study was based on open literature. The developed methodology was able to determine important parameters of energy and exergetic analysis of steam power cycles, therefore is a useful tool to calculate the performance of the thermoelectric power plants.
