Resumo : This graduation thesis reports the design and development of a user interface (UI) component for web applications, which permits the organization of an ordered tree structure with the use of intuitive drag-and-drop operations. This component relies on new technologies that enabled the Web 2.0 phenomenon. The main development effort was in the client portion, which was divided in two UI components of increasing levels of abstraction, the NestedSortable and the NestedSortable Widget. A server-side portion, in the form of a Ruby on Rails framework plugin, was also developed, to support the loading and saving of the data the NestedSortable Widget requires. The client UI components were created for use in the Wordpress blog platform, to improve the way its users can administer their static pages, which are hierarchical and orderable and thus form an ordered tree structure. The component was integrated in Wordpress and this integration is under consideration for inclusion in the core distribution of the platform. The development of the UI components was sponsored by the Google Summer of Code program, which aims to support the development of open source software and increase the involvement and interest of students from around the world in this type of software development philosophy.
